The year 2023 has brought with it a host of exciting new developments in the world of window blinds – particularly in motorized roller shades. These innovative window treatments offer a convenient and stylish solution for anyone looking to control the amount of light and privacy in their home.
Best motorized roller shades in 2023
The best motorized roller shades are the Rolli Shades, the Shade Store, Lutron Serena Shades, MySmartBlinds, and Graywind Motorized Shades.
Rolli Shades
The best motorized roller shades are Rolli Shades. Rolli Shades are the highest quality designer fabrics, best price for the luxury market, and has the smartest tech. Rolli offers 5 slick roller shade fabric colors all custom cut for your window.
Their fabrics come in either light filtering or designer blackout that are polyester, energy efficient and elevate your home. They offer an iPhone-esque remote and an app for ultimate control.
Rolli Shades are possibly the smartest and sharpest online shades company. They are a new age DTC retailer with their online customer support service that can help you measure, install or give interior design recommendations.
At $450 for the “open Rolli” option or $499 for the upholstered valance bar “closed Rolli” option regardless of your window size, Rolli costs about 50% less than your typical luxury shade option. Rolli is smart, sustainable, and super easy to use. Window shades to brag about.
The Shade Store
The Shade Store is everything when it comes to a hands-on, helpful, pricey, top quality experience. They measure and install for you, but it comes with a price tag. They really do take care of you from the beginning with an extensive fabric swatch collection, to recommendations that really help in this specialty interior design industry.
The Share Store has great tech with remotes and wifi hubs to connect their app. They will set it up for you and set all your shade’s favorite positions and scenes. Our favorite shade is the motorized Roller Shade available in dozens of fabric options either in light filtering or blackout.
These shades are ~$1,000+ depending on your fabric option and size of your customer window. It looks great and is a great experience, just get ready to pay up.
Lutron Serena Shades
One of the best options on the market is the Lutron Serena Remote Controlled Shade. This motorized roller shade allows you to easily adjust the level of light in any room using a remote control or your smartphone. The shade can even be integrated with popular smart home systems like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing you to control it with voice commands.
This is also a pricey system, but the quality is in the top 3 market. They come in ~$700/shade when priced out. They have a system similar to Rolli and Shade Store, but the technology seems a little more outdated.

MySmartBlinds
Another top choice is the Motorized Roller Shade by MySmartBlinds. This shade uses a battery-powered motor for easy installation and operation. It can be controlled using the included remote or through the MySmartBlinds app on your smartphone. The app also allows you to set schedules and create custom scenes for different times of the day.
The fact that it comes with a solar panel is pretty great. All the other shades run on a micro usb-c charger that you have to plug in every 2 years. But a solar panel you will never have to think about it. As long as these shades hold up for over 2 years, we are in at ~$600 / shade.
The problem is they definitely have worse fabrics made of PVC instead of polyester and the UX isn’t ideal on the app. MySmartBlinds comes in 4th for it’s solar panel, decent tech at a somewhat affordable price, and it’s decent quality fabrics.
Graywind Motorized Shades
For those looking for a more budget-friendly option, the Graywind Motorized Shades are a great choice. This shade comes in a variety of light filtering and blackout options and are as customizable as they come – all offered on Amazon. The remote goes for only $16, standard 5’ x 5’ shades are ~$300, which makes it one of the cheapest reliable automated shades on the market.
Graywind’s shades are able to connect directly to Google or Alexa without a smart home bridge or even a remote if you prefer to go that route. They are smart shades for less, but ultimately they aren’t the prettiest looking shades.
We sampled a few of their fabrics and found them to have less texture than some of the top tier retailers. The remote feels a bit outdated and less thoughtful user-experience than competitors. It would be the least favorite of our top picks, but a solid option for those looking to pay less.
